Paul is ranked in the 2003 Rolling Stone greatest guitarists but wasn't included on the most recent list......such a shame, since his influence can be felt even in today's music.
To know who Paul Kossoff was, you have to begin with Black Cat Bones and Free. However, I am not going to talk about either of those, but instead the incredible guitarist himself and the band he formed in the 1970's, Back Street Crawler. After Paul died, the bad continued as Crawler.
Members:
- Paul Kossoff - guitar
- Terry Wilson-Slesser - vocals
- Terry Wilson - guitar, bass guitar
- Tony Braunagel - drums
- Mike Montgomery - keyboards, vocals
Paul Kossoff Albums:
- Kossoff Kirke Tetsu Rabbit (1972)
- Back Street Crawler (1973)
Back Street Crawler Albums:
- The Band Plays On (1975)
- 2nd Street (1976)
In 1973, Paul released his first totally solo album, Back Street Crawler, which is a total instrumental album except for two songs. The music was very heavy for this time period and psychedelic. You can hear influences from Alan White of Yes and Rabbit Bundrick of The Who as well as others, even though the album credits all songwriting to Paul Kossoff.
This album has an amazing list of musicians:
- Trevor Burton - The Move
- Alan White - Yes
- Rabbit Bundrick - The Who, Free
- Alan Spenner - Spooky Tooth, Peter Frampton, Ted Nugent, Roxy Music
- Jean Roussel - Cat Stevens, Donovan, The Police
- Simon Kirke - Free, Bad Company
- Paul Rodgers - Free, Bad Company
- Clive Charman - Jeff Beck, Cozy Powell, Rainbow

First up, a vocal song, with Paul Rodgers on vocals, a mellow ballad type song.
Molten Gold
Side one of this album is a super long 17 minute jam.....with numerous different solos, a guitar, an organ, an organ with bass......you get the idea. It's worth listening to at least twice in you life....lol.
