He was probably taking video of the band's performance. I remember back in the the day, you weren't allowed to bring cameras or audio recrding equipment into a concert, they would search you before allowing you in. Now, everyone and their brother (except me) has a cell phone. Pretty hard to control bootleg videos anymore with that many cell phones, in fact, I don't think security even cares about that anymore.

Cell phones are a sore spot with me, I have friends that bug me all the time to "get with the times and get a cell phone" . But the truth is, I don't want to be reached all the time, a cell phone is an elecronic tether, a collar and leash for humans. I have certain friends who would pester me night and day if I had a cell. They would "bored" call me, you know, call me up and say whatchu doin'? To where I'd say "nothing now, I was doing something".

Another reason for my dislike for cells, is the whole tracking thing. The Government used to talk about putting chips in our hands so we "wouldn't have to put up with the horrors of carrying around credit cards". They don't talk about that any more, they don't need to, they can track everyone with ease now. Sorry my rant turned political, we frown upon that here, and for good reason.
Cell phones are good for emergencies if nothing else. I remember when my dad first gave me one towards the end of middle school - one of those old Nokias. I didn't want it, but he was like "just use it for emergencies." That thing definitely got me out of a jam or two.

These days, I use my phone for work, for emergencies, and for basic web browsing when I'm out and about and don't have my tablet on me.

To each their own.

If I'm not mistaken, JP doesn't care about video taping or taking pictures, the problem with this guy came when he decided to turn on his video "flash" which just shone right in Halford's face. That is uncalled for and while I'm not a fan of performers taking matters into their own hands, in this example, I don't have a problem with it at all.

I have mixed feelings on the videos/pictures thing. While it's nice to enjoy a show, it's also nice to be able to take home a 100% unique souvenir. I've taped a number of things at shows so that I can watch them later (never entire performances, but select songs, solos, etc) and I have taken pix as well. The thing that I don't like about it (personally) is that i can't sing to the songs that I love when I'm taping because I hear myself over the band. And no one (not even me) wants to hear that!

I think the odd pic is fine but move to the back for that shit. Don't get in other people's way. I paid to see a show, not record it. That's not what gigs are for.
