Alter Bridge is an American hard rock band formed from the ashes of Creed, who split up in 2004. Overall, they have a melodic hard rock sound that frequently (and increasingly) straddles the fine line between hard rock and metal. All of their albums are excellent, every member of the band is highly talented, and they've only gotten better with age.

I was introduced to them through WWE. Edge, a WWE wrestler, used one of their songs, "Metalingus," as his entrance theme. I loved the song from the moment I first heard it, but my good buddy and college dormmate at the time somehow managed to convince me not to buy their debut album, One Day Remains, saying that Alter Bridge was "just Creed without Scott Stapp," whatever that was supposed to mean.

A few years later, Blackbird came out. I was no longer in communication with my aforementioned dormmate, so I bought it. It was amazing and was probably the hardest stuff I was listening to at that time. There was an interesting contrast in their sound that really intrigued me. Myles Kennedy's voice was brighter and higher-pitched than Scott Stapp's, and he had more range than Stapp, which I liked - yet the riffs were so raw and powerful, and the songs themselves were just bleak and dark enough to pull me in without scaring me (this was well before I got into metal). Mentally, I kicked myself for not getting into them sooner.

Eventually, I bought all of their albums, including One Day Remains, which was a little brighter than Blackbird but still very good. If I absolutely had to choose, I'd say that Fortress is my current favorite album of theirs, but you really can't go wrong with any of them.

This is another thread that I could post a million videos in, but again, I'll try to restrain myself.

Metalingus (from One Day Remains)

Blackbird (title track from that album)

Slip to the Void (opener from AB III)

The Uninvited (from Fortress)

Peace is Broken (from Fortress)

My Champion (from The Last Hero)

I'm a fan!! I also like Mark Tremonti's works, too. AND I am a fan of Creed, even though they get ragged on all the time by music snobs. <eh>

Blackbird and ABIII are my faves, so far. But I cant speak too much about The Last Hero because I have not sat down yet to hear the whole album. (too much music, not enough time)

From AB III --- Myles has a really good voice.

Ghosts of Days Gone By

Isolation (tremonti is baddass)

Oh, hey. I almost forgot about this...

Don't know if you have ever heard Myles' project with Slash.....Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators? Their 3rd studio album is due to drop this fall.

Their first album of 2012:

Second album of 2014:

AND Myles had his debut solo album, Year of the Tiger, which came out March 2018. (this a blues rock album about the death of his dad)

Man, that video for Silver Tongue is wild!

I need to listen to Pawns & Kings at some point. Just another new album by a band I like that somehow slipped through the cracks. I'll get around to it.

I just have to ask……what’s your feelings about Creed?

I will be 100% honest, I have not explored Tremonti solo, except a song here and there.

Another Heart

Marching in Time
Tremonti solo is kickass. Creed I don't know because I've listened to only 1 song I think. As for Stapp, the singer, I've always thought he couldn't get the words out straight, but that could be because he was under the influence of "something" :).....anyway, Creed is post-grunge, whatever that might mean (?!)

IMO most bands….not all, mind you…..are under the influence of “something”. I don’t hold that against them. My all time favorite band, Aerosmith, were a bunch of coke junkies, Hence the album “Done With Mirrors”…..but dang they could make music!!!!

creed’s first album, My Own Prison, was kinda heavy and is tagged alternative metal….actually all their albums are tagged alternative metal / hard rock as well as post-grunge. I really like the first 2 albums…my own prison & human clay. After that, Scott Stapp started falling off the deep end and it was reflected in the music.

One of my fav bands I grew up with is Aerosmith ( 'Smith for die-hard fans) and I know all about the Toxic Twins and drug use,and abuse in rock bands. However, Steve Tyler sang rather clearly and you could understand the words pretty well without having to look them up in the the lyrics pages ....with S. Stapp, I found myself reading the lyrics pretty much always :)

kinda like Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam)…..he sounded like he always had a mouth full of chewing tobacco while singing. :gig:
